During the February half term holiday, 35 cadets had the attended a Silver Cyber course at RAF Wittering’s Cadet Training Centre. The week started with cadets covering the concept of “insecure by default” as well as how they can protect devices with them practicing their new knowledge by breaking, fixing and securing devices on their team’s virtual network.
The cadets received training from a team of four industry experts across the 5 day residential course, and were supported through virtual learning environments, providing them with a safe space to refine their new cyber skills.
Cadets enjoyed using their online labs to apply their newly learnt skills in a safe, virtual environment and finished the course with a digital capture the flag exercise.
Cadet Sgt Cepelak said that “I thoroughly enjoyed the course and thought that it gave a good overview of cybersecurity and allowed the us to learn and apply skills that wouldn’t have been possible without the course.”
Well done to all participants who received their silver Cyber badges and CyberFirst Defender certificates. Thanks go to the staff team, especially Flt Lt Matt Williams, Region Cyber and Radio Officer, who ran and organised the course, a first for our region!
