Successful Sporting Weekend For Central & East

The Corps Senior Rugby Champs

Central and East’s Senior Rugby and Netball Teams celebrated a successful weekend in the Inter Region Championships held a  windswept RAF Cranwell.

The Senior Boys Rugby Team came out victorious as the Corps Champions for 2020, a tremendous achievement against challenging opposition and the very strong wind.

Playing only four matches (Scotland & Northern Ireland Region were unable to participate) the Central and East Region team won each match convincingly amassing 62 points over the four matches conceding only 5 points.   This displayed not only strength in attack but a resolute and determined defence.

The Player of the tournament was Cadet Sergeant Ben Wall from 495 (Sutton Coldfield) Squadron.

Although again there was no team from Scotland and Northern Ireland the remaining five region teams battled hard throughout the day in the Girls Senior Netball Competition which ended with London and South East Region taking home the silverware.

There was a tie for 4th, 3rd and 2nd places, all teams on six points.  Using goal difference to separate the teams gave Central and East Region a well deserved and hard fought second place.

The elected player of the Tournament was Cadet Corporal Ellie Vaughan of 1082 (Brimington) Squadron.

“It was another fantastic day for Central & East sport, I am so proud of our cadets and what they achieved. This is now the 3rd season on the trot that we have won the Senior Rugby Competition.   A big Thank you to all the staff involved in making it happen” said the Region Sports Officer, Squadron Leader Michelle Worsnop.
