Air Cadets from 460 (Dunstable) Squadron, RAF Air Cadets, had a fantastic day at RAF Syerston learning about and having a go at gliding as part of their progressive flying training.
Cadet Corporal Chris Lill and Yasmin Jones along with Cadets Bailey Peacock and Lillie Hurley were the only cadets in attendance on the day and had the benefit of spending their time with Flight Sergeant Sean Link, who talked them through all the basics of how the gliders move, lift and pretty much stay in the air and make different movements.
Then they were lucky enough to get a break with the weather and each had 12 minutes flying time in a Viking Glider with Flight Lieutenant Dempsey.
They then got to go in the glider simulator to get a feel for landing and handling the controls themselves.
Before coming home they were all presented with their gliding wings and certificates by Group Captain John Middleton.
All the Cadets had a fabulous time and are looking forward to more opportunities like this.
