South and East Midlands Triumphant Again

IMG_6220The weekend of the 7th and 8th of October saw fierce competition between Central and East Region’s six Wings that resulted in an emphatic win for South and East Midlands Wing.

The annual Region Field Day, stretched to a weekend, gives cadets from the wings across the Region an arena to compete for the Champion‘s title over several RAF Air Cadet activities, Drill, Banner Drill, First Aid, Media, Aircraft Recognition, Marksmanship, Music and Aircraft Modelling,

The competition has, by the kind permission of the Station Commander, Group Captain Tony Keeling, returned to RAF Wittering which is also the home of South & East Midland’s Wing although it is doubtful that “playing at home” influenced the weekend’s outcome.IMG_6396

Of the 30 classes competed for, South & East Midlands secured 18 wins. However, not all went their way, the prestigious Drill Championship for 2017 was well won by 331 (Chesterfield) Squadron from Trent Wing.

All the cadets worked hard for their Wing’s and all six wings featured as a winner in at least one of the classes. The final results gave Trent Wing the Runners Up place, closely followed by Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing in third place.

Trophies and Certificates were presented by the Regional Commandant, Group Captain Nigel Gorman, who praised all the cadets for their efforts, not only on the day, but for the weeks and months before the competition, honing their skills. The Group Captain also gave his heartfelt thanks to the volunteer staff who devote so much time and effort to ensuring weekends like this could happen.

Thanks also go to Squadron Leader Steve Mills, the Region Training Officer who pulled the whole event together and, with his support team, ensured all went without any (visible) Hiccups.
