‘1109 Battle Hard in the Air Cadet Cup’

Sunday 7th May 2017 saw ten cadets from 1109 (Thetford) Squadron battle hard against nineteen other teams in the sixth Air Cadet Cup for Norfolk and Suffolk Wing. The project involved 20 squadrons throughout Norfolk and Suffolk receive touch rugby coaching from their local club and come together in a tournament against their peers. This event was another fantastic turnout and kindly hosted by Beccles RFC.image3 (3)
1109 got off to a flying start with a victories against Lowestoft and Diss which saw them finish top of their group ad qualify to the next round. The afternoons group was very tough ad saw the cadets come against three time winners Sudbury, Woodbridge and Caister who all proved tough competition. Despite a victory against Caister and draw against Woodbridge, it wasn’t enough to see 1109 through to the semi-finals. They placed sixth overall which is a great achievement, with key performances from Sgt Callum Brown and Cpl Paul Snelling.
Callum said, ‘it was an excellent day and the team have worked really hard together over the weeks to prepare themselves for this tournament’.
As the squadron now prepares themselves for this weekend’s Athletic Championships, we would like to thank Thetford RFC for all their work with the cadets over the recent weeks.
