Cadet Flight Sergeant Hayden Iles, 18, of 1109 (Thetford) Squadron was recently awarded the ‘Presentation Cup’ for winning the Central and East Region Cadet Media Competition 2016. The competition was open to all Squadrons throughout the Region and 1109 were delighted that one of their cadets was awarded with first place.
The competition entailed directing and producing a recruitment video which lasted approximately three minutes. Whilst many of the cadets were on annual camp at RAF Brize Norton in August, Hayden, assisted by a group of cadets and a staff member headed to the Squadron to produce the award winning video. The video involved cadets showing off their acting skills in a number of scenarios, promoting some core activities which the Air Cadet Organisation offers. For the purpose of this video: flying and gliding, sports, fieldcraft, shooting and adventure training were chosen.
The video has been used over the last six weeks during the Squadron’s biggest ever recruitment drive, which involved three assemblies at local schools. The number of potential recruits attending the Squadron’s forthcoming open night on Wednesday 5th October stands at 25-30, a number which we believe has been achieved largely down to the Squadron’s exciting new video.
Hayden said ‘Although I am proud to have received the award, I would like to personally thank all the cadets and Sergeant Drewry for their help in working towards producing the video. I see this award as another great achievement for the Squadron, particularly so in being able to promote our work to potential recruits in the newest and upcoming intake.”
