Today saw the next stage celebration and the Reinterment of King Richard III. Following a lengthy excavation and authentication process followed by the battle to re-bury him in Leicester, the time has finally come to lay him to rest.
Following the Service of Compline the at Leicester Cathedral where the remains of King Richard III were received after a procession through the county and city of Leicester.
South and East Midlands Wing was privileged to be invited to be represented at both the Service of Compline and the Reinterment by cadets and staff. Cadets today led the groups through the procession into the service.
Squadron Leader Andrew Pass accompanied cadet representatives from the Leicestershire Squadrons to the service at Leicester Cathedral which was led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby. Squadron Leader Pass commented “ It is an honour and privilege to be part of the moment in history within our local area. The cadets were exemplary in their appearance and have been given a moment in a lifetime they will never forget”..
Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson OBE said: “I would just like to thank everyone involved in giving our Cadets this wonderful opportunity to be part of this historic event. My thanks also to Sqn Ldr Andrew Pass and WO (ATC) Dan Haywood for their work in ensuring our cadets were selected and fully prepared to represent the ACO on this occasion. I’m sure this will live long in the memories of all who were there.”
