King Richard III, Leicester Air Cadets get Involved

Cadet Warrant Officer Molly Henson and Cadet Flight Sergeant Jinni Sur of 1461 (Wigston) Squadron were lucky enough to represent not only their Wing but the Air Cadet Organisation in general at a once in a lifetime event, the Service of Compline for the Reception of Remains for King Richard III.press release (2)

With King Richard being the last Royal to die in battle all the way back in August 1485, it was an incredible discovery when his remains were found in a Leicester car park in 2012.

For the City it really was having history on the doorstep, which led to the re-interment of the King held at Leicester Cathedral today, Sunday 22 March 2015.

The cadets were some of the fortunate few to have seats in the Cathedral as a beautiful service and historical ceremony took place with guests such as HRH The Duke of Gloucester and the Archbishop of Westminster. “It was such a great experience, and we’re so lucky to be able to be a part of it” said Jinni. Cadets from Wigston are not only a part of ceremony today, but are looking forward to making an appearance on the day of the burial this Thursday, where they themselves will be a part of the ceremony..
