New Regional Music Officer

Flt Lt Ken Yau has been appointed as the new Music Officer.  He’s a long history with the Air Cadets and music!

Ken joined the RAFAC as a cadet at 25 (Parkwood) Squadron in London and South East Region, rising to Cadet Warrant Officer, before attending university and the East Midlands University Air Squadron.   Following his commission, Ken took up posts at 25 and 2374 Squadrons, before assuming command of 1066 (Hitchin) Squadron alongside a move into the region due to work commitments.

Getting involved with RAFAC music as a cadet, Ken joined the National Marching Band before becoming the principal saxophonist for the National Concert Band in 2014. With RAFAC Music, he performed in a number of public settings including the Birmingham International Tattoo (twice), RIAT Gala Dinner, Air Cadet Conference, Royal Hospital Chelsea and even at 10 Downing Street. He also participated in the 75th Anniversary Celebrations at RAF Cranwell and participated in a CD recording with the Concert Band.

Ken has been a member of the Region Music Team since 2021, supporting both C&E and LASER with their music training camps and performances. He is also a member of the National Concert Band Camp Staff Team as the adjutant and woodwind instructor.

Flt Lt Yau is a Senior Systems Engineer working in the Aerospace/Defence Industry. He is also the Musical Director for the Hertfordshire Concert Band, leading the band in concerts and public performances throughout the season.

We’re excited to see what Flt Lt Yau brings to the Region as he takes up his new post.
