Squadrons Compete for the Top!

SEM 35856761015_6e5ff2b237_zSunday 9 July saw the squadrons of the South and East Midlands Wing compete against one another in the annual hotly contested Wing Field Day at RAF Wittering.
With perfect weather to greet the competitors the opposing teams put many months of practice to the test in the various events situated around the station, while the station commander himself, Group Captain Tony Keeling OBE visited each activity to observe the hard work of the cadets for himself.
Activities included Leadership, Aircraft Recognition, First Aid and the essential ceremonial aspect of the Foot and Banner Drill competition. Other aspects of the competition where aeromodelling, media and communication and the Padre’s cup.
While the squadron teams competed, cadets were also able to enjoy time on the climbing wall to hone their climbing skills and try their hand at archery. Staff meanwhile could discuss development opportunities with the CVQO team.
With 169 points 126 (City of Derby) Sqn came third, while 1360 (Stapleford) Sqn obtained 175 points and with an amazing 188 points a jubilant 1359 (Beeston) Sqn achieved overall Field Day winning position. Cadet Warrant Jade Cox, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant Cadet for Nottinghamshire collected the award on behalf of the Squadron, but was also awarded Best Female Cadet in the South and East Midlands Wing.
With such suburb effort demonstrated by all squadrons, Group Captain Keeling was pleased to award those cadets and squadrons himself on the final parade. With such a great day of hard cadet work rewarded, the setting was also perfect for staff from throughout the Wing to also receive awards and presentations to mark their hard work and contribution to the Wing and Corps.
