March 2017 has been a very busy but successful month for several cadets from 1109 (Thetford) Squadron. On the 5th March Cadet Hayley Bingham represented Norfolk and Suffolk Wing at the Regional Cross Country Championships, running a fantastic race and finishing third in the Junior Girls group. This saw Hayley selected to represent Central and East Region at the Corps Competition on the 19th March.
On Sunday 12th March Sergeant Callum Brown and Coporal Lewis Haynes teamed up with the Norfolk and Suffolk Wing Boys Hockey Team to take on five other Wings at RAF Cranwell. The team finished fourth, competing against some strong teams.
Finally, on Sunday 19th March Sergeants Robbie Webb, Will Kimber and Callum Brown and Corporals Mauro Pereira, Lewis Haynes and Paul Snelling represented Norfolk and Suffolk Wing at the Regional Junior Boys Rugby Competition at RAF Cranwell. The team finished second after winning four out of their five matches, a fantastic achievement. This was the largest number of cadets 1109 has ever had in one Wing team and is evidence of the cadets sporting talents. During the competition, Robbie Webb and Mauro Pereira were selected for Regional trials.
On the same day, Flight Sergeant Georgia Brinkley took part in the Senior Girls Regional Hockey Trials where she was selected as a reserve to take part in the Corps competition.
Squadron Sports Officer, Sergeant Matt Drewry said, ‘sport is a passion of mine so it is fantastic to see cadets at 1109 continuing to achieve in this area. To have fourteen Wing and Regional representations in the first three months of 2017 is a superb achievement and the cadets can be immensely proud of this. With a wide range of competitions and sporting opportunities still to go, this year certainly is on track to be our best yet’.
The cadets are now preparing for the Inter-Squadron Touch Rugby and Athletics competitions in May.
