On Monday 13th March the High Sheriff of the County of Norfolk, Major General Sir William Cubitt KCVO, CBE, visited 42F (King’s Lynn) Squadron Air Cadets at their Loke Road Headquarters in the town.

Having introduced the High Sheriff to her adult staff, Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Pauline Petch, gave a guided tour of the building during which Sir William gained an insight into the Squadron’s past and present projects and activities. During the second half of the evening he was able to observe a lesson on aircraft recognition which was given by one of the senior cadets under adult supervision.

Before leaving, the High Sheriff thanked everyone for allowing him the opportunity to visit. He told the cadets that being a member of the cadet organisation would be of great benefit in whatever adult career they would eventually choose. He was also pleased to have the chance to personally thank those members of the Squadron who had formed the Honour Guard at the recent Justices Service held in the King’s Lynn Minster. He said “Having walked in the rain last Sunday [5th March] from the town hall to the church we were then, as we entered, met with your very smart Honour Guard. It was very much appreciated”. He continued by explaining the role of the High Sheriff and also of the importance of continuing the annual traditions of events such as the Justice Service.

Before leaving Maj Gen Cubitt signed the Squadron visitors’ book and was presented with a book and DVD of the unit’s history.
