Cadets from 1109 (Thetford) Squadron took advantage of their school holidays and enjoyed a day at Thorpe Woodlands Adventure Centre on Friday 5th August. Thorpe Woodlands is a popular forest retreat and activity centre located in the heart of Thetford Forest.
Twelve cadets, the majority of which only recently joined the squadron in July, enjoyed activities including low ropes, team challenges, canoeing and mountain biking led by excellent instructors from the centre. The day began with the group working as a team to overcome a challenging low ropes course, as well as building their trust with each other through various team exercises.
The afternoon consisted of a mountain bike session along a course with varying terrain and a two hour canoe session along the River Thet which introduced them to the basics of paddlesport. With the temperature being over 25 degrees Celsius the cadets enjoyed swimming in the lake afterwards and of course, ensuring the staff members didn’t leave the river dry!
Cadet Charlie Jenkins, who joined the squadron in March of this year, said ‘I really enjoyed the day and found the activities very good; I particularly enjoyed the canoeing and look forward to going again!’
The squadron will take another group of cadets to the centre in October as part of their initial expedition training weekend.
