The Grimsby RAF Air Cadet unit have this week announced they are to host their first summer fete, during what will be a busy summer for 195 (Grimsby) Squadron.
The Squadron had previously been taken up with preparations for the Cleethorpes Armed Forces Day national event, as well as still currently making preparations for their annual Wing Field Day competitions.
However, the Civilian Committee voted to hold the summer fete this year as a reward for the cadets’ hard work and efforts.
The fete, which will be held at the Territorial Army Barracks on Regents Gardens, Off Westward Ho, Grimsby, on Sunday 3 July 2016 from 1.00pm to 5.00pm, will include a series of aviation-inspired attractions along with traditional fete themes.
Flight Leuitenant Terance Shird, Officer Commanding 195 Squadron, said: “We’re pulling out all the stops to ensure that this fete goes down a storm.
“We’ve got a flight simulator, a fire engine, craft and cake stalls, and lots more. Some of our staff have volunteered to take part in a ‘wet-sponge wipe-out’, which should provide much entertainment for the cadets!”
Theresa Horner, a member of the Squadron’s Civilian Committee, said: “ We’ve seen first-hand how hard the cadets have worked to get things ready for this years Armed Forces Day, and decided that hosting the Squadron’s first fete would be a great way of rewarding their hard work.
“We’re inviting the public to come down and join in the fun, with any proceeds raised going towards our Squadron minibus fund.”
