Group Captain Nigel Gorman, Regional Commandant, presented Flt Lt Shird and six other Air Cadet staff members with their long service medals, and paid tribute to the value of the volunteer staff that support the organisation.
Flt Lt Shird said: “I’m thrilled to have been presented with this medal. I’ve loved every minute of my 14 years in the Air Cadets, and I’ve experienced so much.
“There is real value in helping to develop and shape young people, helping them to gain new experiences and new qualifications.
“And as staff members, we still get to have fun along the way. I’m looking forward to the many more wonderful years in the organisation”
