Thinking Hard for Fundraising

42f DSCF3146On Saturday 16th April, to raise money for our forthcoming Tornado trail in Kings Lynn, cadets from 864DF and 42F along with Squadron Leader Allan and Flight Lieutenant Howlett cycled a total of 381 miles round the perimeter track at RAF Marham.

The weather was dreadful but they did 61 laps – the distance between RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Marham. Money raised will hopefully purchase a tornado for the trail once all sponsorship is in.

At this event the Wing “ATC 75” Timecapsule paid us a flying visit. 1018 Squadron brought it to Marham to hand over to 42F so a photo call  was held with the intention to do a lap carrying it but the awful weather and size of capsule was against us. 42F were then tasked to find a way to deliver the time capsule to 864DF (Marham)  by 23rd April.  Due to that weeks being the Queens Birthday we found that every person we thought could help was busy, but we persevered.

After thinking of cycling it to Marham (a bit tame) ……. going on a bus (not sure it would get there!)…  asking the Army Cadet Force for a tank (absolutely no chance!) and even trying to bribe a local farmer to take it on his tractor we were beginning to run out of ideas …… so we then asked the Red Arrows and the Memorial flight but even they were too busy practising for HM birthday…… so we decided had to improvise and we transported the capsule with the fantastic help of the ” Red Barrows and the Pedestrian Memorial Flight”!

After getting the Red Barrows and the Pedestrian Memorial flight to take it to the next stage we realised that 864DF were not at home so we brought it along to Wing Field 2016, which also gave Sqn Ldr Green the opportunity to explain more about the time capsule to the gathered cadets and staff.

Good luck to the rest of the squadrons and the time capsule!
