Long Eaton Squadron gets Gold Star Health and Safety

Through a lot of hard work and effort by both cadets and staff, 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron has been awarded a Gold Star Health and Safety Award.
An inspection was conducted by the Regional Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor, who examined everything from the First Aid kits to the Risk Assessments. Each inspection can be awarded a Bronze, Silver or Gold Star depending on the effectiveness of the implementation of the Corps HSE policy.
Over the past six months Alex Tolson, a Civilian Instructor on the Squadron, has been working hard as the Squadron’s HSE Officer to keep up the standards and make sure the cadet activities can be undertaken safely. He has also been keeping the Squadron Health and Safety Board up to date and ensuring that cadets, staff and visitors are aware of what to do to if any incidents should occur.

He has been helped by the hard work and dedication of the Cadet Corporal Team. As well as being vigilant on the squadron safety, they play a pivotal role in the keeping of attendance registers. Cadet Corporal Emi Ephraim, who has had this responsibility since July, said “It was quite hard work but it was worth it to see the squadron achieve the gold star”.
Flying Officer Lawrence Buckingham, Officer in Charge of 2195 Squadron, said ;“the cadets and staff should be proud to have achieved this award. A lot of effort has gone into maintaining the high standards and discipline at 2195 and this is shown in the fantastic Gold Star we have been awarded. The Air Cadet Organisation gives cadets opportunities to take part in a lot of activities that others can only dream of, and this can only be done through ensuring that in all things we do, we do them safely.”
