Cadet Warrant Officer Tommy Lawrence, Cadet Sergeant Hayden Iles and Cadet Sergeant Towell were all awarded their BTEC Level 2 Diplomas in Aviation Studies this week after completing a series of academic lessons. This award is aimed at developing a learner’s knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a ‘work’ related context.
The cadets developed their knowledge in Airmanship, Map Reading, Radio and Communications, Aircraft Handling and Flying Techniques, Jet Engine Propulsion and Pilot Navigation to name a few, all of which give the cadets an insight to the military services and aviation industry. The Level 2 Diploma is equivalent to four GCSE’s at grades A* to C and is an excellent addition to their curriculum vitae for future career opportunities and university applications alike.
Flight Lieutenant Juliane Ovenden, who oversees the BTEC programme at 1109 Squadron said, ‘it is very important for cadets to be recognised for their achievements during the academic programme and awards such as these provide an extra qualification for employers and universities. It is great to see Tommy, Hayden and Kathryn achieve obtain these awards and hopefully there are many more to follow in the future’.
The three cadets are now active academic instructors at the squadron, using their skills and understanding of the syllabus subjects to teach younger cadets.
