Air Cadet Friends Turn to Pedal Power to Raise Funds

Adventurous air cadets from Wellingborough’s 378 (Mannock) Squadron, Air Training Corps, have taken to the saddle to complete an epic bicycle ride, all in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

378 Air Cadet friends turn to pedal power to raise funds - Air Cadets Maddy Morgan and Leah Catterall
Cadet Flight Sergeants Maddy Morgan and Leah Catterall, both aged 17, cycled an impressive 54 miles from London to Brighton on Sunday (6 September) and managed the feat in just seven hours.
Maddy said: “This was a real challenge for both of us, but we’re up for a challenge and we wanted to raise some much needed funds and raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis.”
The ride proved eventful, with Maddy’s chain flying off spectacularly, the pair dismounting to help fellow riders with a puncture and the duo speeding along so fast that they set off a 30 mile per hour road warning sign.
Thanks to the generosity of friends and family the cadets have raised over £1000 but hope to boost the final amount a little more now that they have completed their challenge.
Leah said: “People have been so kind, Maddy and I had no clue that we would raise over £1000. Now we’ve reached that amount we’re keen to raise a little more as any money going to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust makes a real difference to those with CF and helps research into finding a cure.”
Flight Lieutenant James Broadhurst, from Wellingborough Air Cadets, said: “We are very proud of Leah and Maddy and delighted that they’ve chosen to raise money for such a wonderful cause. We are now looking forward to seeing what their next challenge might be.”
