Nottingham Armed Forces Day – Flag Raising

IMG_8555Cadets from all three Cadet Forces joined with Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council, members of the Armed Forces and Royal British Legion with a raising of the Armed Forces Day Flag to mark the beginning of the week that will culminate in a weekend of commemoration in Wollaton Park.

The Air Cadets from the Nottingham Squadrons shared centre stage at this event with the Sea Cadet Corps, including Royal Marine Cadets, and the Army Cadet Force all under the direction of Flight Lieutenant Jodi Hudson RAF VR(T), the Parade Commander.

The Flag was transported to County Hall by the Sea Cadet Corps in a boat on the River Trent

IMG_8626The honour of presenting the Armed Forces Day flag to the assembled dignitaries went to Cadet Warrant Officer Damien Simpson of 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron who was escorted by Leading Cadet Roxy Phillips of the Long Eaton Sea cadets and Sergeant Alex Manners from the Wigman Road Detachment of the Army Cadet Force.

Although rain forced the civic party inside County hall for their speeches, it did not mar the pomp of the ceremony so well orchestrated by Flight Lieutenant Jodi Hudson.

After the Parade, Nottingham Television, a local digital channel, interviewed Cadet Warrant Officer Rebecca Parr of Long Eaton Squadron about her thoughts on Armed forces Day.

Air Cadets represented 209 (West Bridgford), 1359 (Beeston), 1936 (Newton), 2195 (Long Eaton), 2418 (Sherwood) and 2425 (Nottingham Airport) Squadrons.IMG_8612
