Squadron’s Spitfires Prepare for Flight

Having been honoured in 2014 with the Freedom of the Borough, 42F (King’s Lynn) Squadron, Air Training Corps, will exercise that Freedom for the first time on Saturday 18th July with a parade on the town’s waterfront.

To coincide with that parade, the Squadron, in partnership with the Borough Council, is launching an arts trail of sponsored model Spitfire aircraft that will be painted and displayed around the town until the middle of September.

King’s Lynn’s Vancouver Quarter shopping centre has sponsored two of the models which are being covered in mosaic. Families are being given the opportunity to take part in a number of ‘Mosaic Workshops’ in the town centre to decorate one of the Spitfires under the guidance of well-respected local artist Carolyn Ash.

The first of these workshops was on Saturday 20th June when Borough Mayor, Councillor Colin Manning, dropped in to see the progress and to add a few pieces himself. Although the visit was unannounced, 42F’s Mayors Cadet, Elliot Simpson, was on hand to assist ‘his Mayor’ after the formal introductions to Carolyn Ash by the Vancouver Quarter’s manager Abbie Panks.
