Sutton Air Cadets help promote key message
Air Cadets at 495 (Sutton Coldfield) Squadron are finding creative ways to spread the Government’s vital message to stay home, protect the NHS and save lives. This message is particularly important to those at 495 as the squadron has two front line NHS workers amongst its staff.
Due to the Lockdown the squadron is holding weekly “virtual” parade nights encouraging cadets to get involved in weekly challenges and projects to keep them engaged. They also have regular sessions with the Squadron’s Padre who is able to provide pastoral care. “It is important to support the cadet’s mental well being during this difficult time,” commented Flight Lieutenant Emma Hart, the Squadron’s Commanding Officer and a NHS employee whose mother is on the NHS Front Line.
Cadet Warrant Officer Thomas Wilkes is also at the front line as a St John’s First Aider.
As Sutton Coldfield has one the largest parks in Europe attracting thousands of visitors each year, especially during the warmer months, the cadets, aged between 12 and 20 drawn from wider Sutton Coldfield area, are particularly keen to remind prospective visitors to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.
This popular squadron has a long waiting list but anyone interested should visit the Royal Air Force Air Cadets website to find other squadrons available in the Birmingham area.
