Cadet Flight Sergeant Louis Kill-Brown has been awarded the Cubby Sword that recognises the Best Cadet out of all that completed the Air Cadet Leadership courses in the past year.
The Air Cadet Leadership Courses are designed to develop and test cadets from both the Air Training Corps (ATC) and CCF (RAF). They bring together cadets from all over the UK and within the week-long course the cadets are expected to build a strong team, both within their flights and as a course, all while developing their own leadership skills. The course involves high standards of discipline including teamwork, lectures, drill, fitness, lectures, navigation, two days in the field and command tasks – all designed to build leadership and teamwork.
Having passed his particular course with a distinction, Louis was the compared to the top cadet in the other three courses and was adjudges to be the best.
Starting his cadet career at 425 (Aldridge) Squadron in Staffordshire Wing, Louis had made his mark with a string of achievements before his recent transfer to Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing and 487 (Kingstanding) squadron.
Notable during his career, Louis has completed: a sponsored gliding course with the Fleet Air Arm, was awarded his BTEC in Aviation Studies, completed his Activity First Aid course, Silver D of E award and was also selected as Lord Lieutenants Cadet for West Midlands (Staffordshire Wing) but had to give this up when he transferred to 487.
Louis is a qualified Fieldcraft trainer, has also taken part in bands and first aid competitions, has his blue Communications badge and sports leader award.
During 2017 he has his pilot scholarship planned and hopefully will undertake Junior Leaders and his Gold D of E.
