New Air Cadet for Thetford Mayor

Cadet Sergeant Larna Smith becomes the new Royal Air Force Air Cadet RAFAC) Mayor’s Cadet for Thetford after the Mayor Making ceremony at the Guildhall on Tuesday 9th May.

Larna takes over from Cadet Warrant Officer Georgia Brinkley and will now escort the Mayor of Thetford, Councillor Denis Crawford, for the 2017/18 mayoral year. Over the last four years, Larna has achieved many great things within the RAFAC including; representing both 1109 (Thetford) Squadron and Norfolk and Suffolk wing in a number of sporting activities such as Netball and athletics. These achievements have led to her being announced as last years ‘Best Sporting Female’ for 1109. She has attended numerous camps since 2013 and has made the most of all opportunities the RAFAC has to offer like; Air Experience flying, target shooting and Adventure Training experiences. Sergeant Smith is a great role model for young people and a brilliant representative of the Squadron.

As well as this Larna has attended multiple commemorative armed forces parades and has volunteered her time to help in a Dementia care home for her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and squadron fundraising activities.

Upon receiving this award Larna said; ‘I am proud to be able to accompany the Mayor of Thetford. I am very keen to see positive things happen in Thetford, and I love being a part of it. ’All at 1109 Squadron congratulate Larna on this amazing achievement and we wish her luck for the year ahead.
