Track and Field Success for Newmarket Air Cadets.


2417 Cdt Jessiman sprints for successOn Sunday 8 May, 11 members of 2417 (Newmarket) Squadron, Royal Air Force  Air Cadets, took part in the Annual Wing Athletics competition held at Bedford International Athletics Stadium.

The Cadets took part in a variety of events, including; javelin, high jump and the 200m.
All of the cadets thoroughly enjoyed the day, and although long and tiring, came away with high spirits and improved skills for future athletics events.

Cadet Corporal Foreman said: “I really enjoyed the day. The team spirit was fantastic and kept everyone trying hard all day. We’re looking forward to next year to see if we can win any more medals.” On the day 2417 were very successful, competing against 28 other squadrons, with Cadet Jessiman placing first in Junior Girls High Jump and Junior Girls 800m, Cadet Pongnop achieving Silver in Junior Boys 200m and the Junior Girls 4 X 100m Relay team won Silver. Cadet Jessiman will now go on to compete at Region level for Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing in 800m and high jump.

Flight Lieutenant Griffiths, Officer Commanding 2417: “I’m really proud of their achievements at athletics. It’s the best we’ve achieved in a long time and in the future I can see a lot more medals being won! They should all be very proud of themselves.”
