New Regional Training Officer

Central & East Region is delighted to announce that Squadron Leader Mike Eckersley is appointed to the Central & East Regional Staff as the Region Training Officer.

Mike joins us from Trent Wing, where he previously was Commanding Officer 2292 (Market Rasen) Squadron. He originally joined the Air Training Corps as a cadet in 1981, before starting his career as an Adult Volunteer in 1989.

A number of roles within what was then East Cheshire & South Manchester Wing ensued, including Commanding Officer of 284 (Cheadle & Gately) Squadron, Wing Duke of Edinburgh Officer, Wing Adventure Training Officer, Wing Training Officer and ultimately as Deputy Officer Commanding Wing. After a short break from the organisation due to a relocation and his time as OC 2292 Squadron Mike is a very welcome addition to the Regional Staff.

On a personal level – Mike is married to Rachel for 22 years with two children Matthew at university in Salford and Emma – a Cadet Corporal at 2292 Squadron, and Charlie the Colliedoodle. He works as a Business Architect for a software company and enjoys running – 2 marathons in 2019 and Manchester marathon booked for October this year!

Squadron Leader Eckersley said “I’m delighted to be appointed Regional Training Officer, as I’m passionate about our offering to the cadets and I believe it’s a great position to influence new directions and improve the current delivery. I’m looking forward to working with the team and getting to know 5 other wings.”
