Playing in unusually warm February weather at RAF Wyton, the Central & East Region Inter Wing Seniors Football and Hockey teams fought hard to secure the Top Wing accolade.
The Hockey was played on the excellent Station’s Astro Turf pitch and the fierce competition was between only four teams with South and East Midlands Wing eventually coming out on top.
Each of the four teams played three matches and each match was played with maximum commitment as each team strove to come out on top. Although playing hard, the teams displayed great sportsmanship and no serious incidents were reported.
Runners up on the day were Norfolk & Suffolk Wing with Trent Wing a creditable third. Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing filled the fourth place.
Playing equally hard and fast, the Senior Boys fought their matches on the Station football pitch. Again, the competition was between four teams and the competition was just as hot.
On the final count, Trent Wing narrowly beat Norfolk & Suffolk Wing to become the Region Football Champions. South & East Midlands Wing took the third place with Warwickshire and Birmingham bringing up the rear.
An excellent day of competition that was rounded off by the presentation of Trophies and medals by Wing Commander David Miller MBE, Officer Commanding Norfolk & Suffolk Wing.
