Working for Blue Wings – A Cadet’s Experience

A report from a young cadet from 1094 (City of Ely) Squadron, First Class Cadet James Munday

“Yesterday, Cadet Polly Nickless and I went to the Air Cadet Volunteer Gliding School at Swanton Morley Airfield.

We had been selected to attend the three hour Part Task Trainer (PTT) gliding simulator course as part of our Blue Wings Aviation Training Package.

We both enjoyed the course tremendously and we learnt more about gliding and aviation in general.

We were then given the opportunity to put into practice our theory lessons and gain experience using the Viking glider simulator. We both were successful in flying simulated take offs, circuits and landings.

The course covered glider instruments and controls, the control surface of gliders, features of airfields and The Clock Code used by pilots to identify the position of other aircraft in order to ensure safety in the air.

We would both strongly recommend any cadet to put their names forward for these courses. Now all we have to do to obtain our blue gliding wings badges is to attend a Volunteer Gliding School for our first flight in a glider.”
