“LORD LIEUTENANTS AIR CADET”

Cadet Warrant Officer Alex Myers of 2160 (Sleaford) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC) has been appointed the Lord Lieutenants Air Cadet for Lincolnshire.

IMG_3605LORD LIEUTENANTS CDT CWO MYERS (1)Lord Lieutenant’s cadets are selected one from each of the Air, Army, and Sea cadet units in the county. This is a nation-wide scheme.

Alex (18) was selected for the position in competition with cadets from the eighteen other RAFAC Squadrons in Lincolnshire. He will join with his counterparts from the Army and Sea cadets in what is considered one of the highest honours a cadet can achieve.

As the Lord Lieutenants Air Cadet he will accompany Mr Toby Dennis, the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, on a number of his official engagements throughout the coming year. The first such engagement will be the Remembrance Day service at Lincoln Cathedral. Should there be a visit by a member of the Royal family to Lincolnshire, Alex will be there.

Alex, who joined the Air Cadets five years ago, has had the ambition to achieve this distinction from early on in his cadet career. This is the third time this decade that a cadet from Sleaford has been honoured with this appointment, a reflection of the high standard achieved by the squadrons’ cadets.

His appointment was marked by the presentation of his badge of office at a formal reception hosted by the Lord Lieutenant.

Alex said following the presentation of his badge:- “The post holds special significance for me, as I am following in the footsteps of my former colleague Cadet Warrant Officer Abi Walker – she was Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet 2013-2014. The prestige of the role is accentuated by this history; I only hope I gain as much confidence and as many good memories by performing the role as well as she did”.
