Flight Lieutenant Sam Chapman-Allen, Officer Commanding 1109 (Thetford) Squadron, attended the Wing Training Day on Sunday 9th April 2017. As well as being an important training day for Squadrons Commanders, it is also the day when the annual Wing awards are presented to the winning Squadrons.
1109 were presented with the ‘Peter Keeble Cup’ for Best Media Squadron within the Wing which is testament to the Squadron’s active involvement in local and social media. 2016 saw 1109 crowned winners of the Regional Media Competition after producing a cadet recruitment video in August, as well as a charity video for the ’22 Push Up Challenge’ being viewed by over 25,000 people.
Aside from this the Squadron takes an active role in celebrating the cadets great achievements by working closely with Archant News who publish the Thetford and Brandon News as well as the Eastern Daily Press. They are pleased to welcome their senior reporter to the Squadron in May to hear 1109’s nomination for the most improved Squadron in the Corps.
Sergeant Matt Drewry, Media and Communications Officer at 1109 Squadron, said ‘It is a real privilege for the Squadron to receive this award and it is testament to the team of cadets who work with me to keep 1109 and all the great things the cadets achieve in the media. I feel it is very important to celebrate the cadet’s representations, awards and experiences as it shows the public what young people can achieve and what the Air Training Corps is all about’.
1109 were also placed second in the ‘Hunt Cup’ for the Best Sporting Squadron within Norfolk and Suffolk.
