Grimsby Air Cadets Recruiting After ‘Incredible’ Year

The RAF Air Cadets have begun the search for the next generation of cadets to represent our region, after a bumper year of activities and events.
195 (Grimsby) Squadron are recruiting for their first training flight of 2017, as the newest batch of cadets prepare to graduate in April.195
Flight Leiutenant Terance Shird RAF AC, Officer Commanding 195 Squadron, said: “This is a very unique opportunity for the young people of this area to set themselves on a path which will make them stand out from the crowd.
“We live in a very competitive world, and the RAF Air Cadets can give young people an edge. At our squadron, we have 14 and 15-year old cadets who have flown aircraft, been abroad on camp and have marched on parade in front of thousands of people.
“Last year was incredible with the national Armed Forces Day celebrations in Cleethorpes, and the RAF Air Cadets celebrating its 75th anniversary. We’ve got all sorts of activities coming up, from flying and target shooting, to summer camps and parades.
“If anyone is interested in joining our ranks, I would urge them to visit the Squadron during opening hours or visit our website and complete the recruitment application form.”
Cadet Katie Riley, aged 15, joined in October 2016, and is graduating next month having completed her initial training.
Cadet Riley said: “My brother joined 195 Squadron a few years ago and enjoyed it, so I decided I’d give it a go.
“I convinced one of my friends to join with me, and we love it. I’ve learnt so much already.”
