Last week Cadet Corporal Freya White of 2484 (Bassingbourne) Squadron, RAF Air Cadets, was one of 24 Air Cadets lucky enough to gain a place on the Training Ship (TS) Royalist, that enables the Cadets to achieve offshore experience and qualifications.
The Ship sailed around the Isle of Wight then along to Poole and Bournemouth covering 116 miles. The cadets were taught how to use the sails to harness the most power from the wind and how to counter the wind when steering the ship.
Cadets stay on the ship for the whole week, working together for the entire time building upon their leadership and teamwork skills. Cadets also helped the Chef to prepare their meals, peeling the veg, doing the washing-up and all the cleaning.
Corporal White said “I loved every second of everything we did, especially as i was a Flight Commander and watching my cadets learn, improve and thoroughly enjoy themselves made the experience even better”.
During this week Corporal White was awarded Levels 1 and 2 of Offshore Hand and also achieved her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Residential qualification. Well done Corporal, it sounds like you have had an amazing week!
