Life Savers and Marksman’s at 1461

1461 Marksmans

Monday 23rd May saw almost every member of 1461 (Wigston) Squadron receive a certificate of achievement.
Wigston is well known for its shooting success and this hasn’t stopped during the first quarter of 2016.

Most cadets on the Squadron have been shooting this year already and under the skilled hands of Warrant Officer (ATC) Andy Hubbard, most cadets have managed to achieve at least one Marksman badge. Marksmanship is a very useful skill that cadets learn as it teaches self-discipline which is rewarded on four levels of Marksmanship competence.
On a similar note, with Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) Lauren Ashby attending the Heartstart Instructors Course at the beginning of the year, she has been able to guide cadets through the Heartstart syllabus meaning that on top of the copious amounts of Marksman’s achieved, 1461 also have almost 30 Hearstart qualified cadets! This is a fantastic qualification that the cadets can gain for free via the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO) which enables those who pass to competently administer potential life-saving First Aid.
Squadron Officer Commanding (OC), Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Tim Hargraves said “It’s great to see all of the up and coming shooters in the Squadron which will hopefully lead us to shooting success in the years to come!
And the amount of Heartstarts we are achieving is fantastic. As a paramedic myself, I know only too well how vital it can be for someone to administer the first-aid that is taught as part of Heartstart. Whilst I hope none of my cadets are ever in that situation, it is refreshing to know that they would be equipped with the knowledge should it happen.”
