Wellingborough Air Cadet Takes Sporting Gold

Cadet Corporal Sean Lyddall, 16, from 378 (Mannock) Squadron Air Training Corps, has retained his hard-earned reputation as a local sports star. Sean was at Saffron Lane Athletics Stadium in Leicester last week to represent the Squadron at the South and East Midlands Wing Athletics Competition. Not only did Sean achieve gold in both long jump and the 100 metre sprint, but he comes fresh from representing the whole of Central and East Region at the highest level in rugby.

????????????????????????????????????

A budding athlete, Sean has now been selected by staff officers to represent the Wing in both the 100 metres and the long-jump on the basis of his performance last week, which included a personal best time of 10.86 seconds for the sprint. Having excelled in last year’s athletics and football competitions and with 2016 seeing him already at the top of his rugby game and now athletics, Sean is continuing to do his Region, the Wing and his Squadron proud.
Mannock Squadron’s Officer in Charge, Flying Officer Phil Warr, said: “This is a fantastic result. We’re all very proud of Sean’s achievements so far and looking forward to seeing him represent himself and our Squadron at the highest levels in sport.
“Naturally sport plays a key part in our calendar and is an important team building tool for our young people. Sean is a great example to our younger cadets of what can be achieved if they aim high.”
