2229 (Loughborough) Squadron Air Cadets were celebrating recently when they won the prestigious ‘Helping the Community Award’ during the Pride of Charnwood Awards ceremony, making it the first uniformed group to win an award at the annual awards.
The award was presented by Robin Duke, president of Loughborough Lions, who commented that 2229 were the ‘Go To’ group if you were running a community event as the cadets were helpful, enthusiastic and always had a smile.
Commanding Officer Adrian Garraway said: “It is the Corps 75th anniversary year and I believe we have been helping communities for most of that time. One of the Corps main aims is to develop qualities of good citizenship an aim we take very seriously at the Squadron.
The Air Cadets is a great organisation, it helps to develop teenagers into mature adventurous adults but most people do not realise that the organisation has an ethos of community support and it is great for the cadets and staff who are out there on cold wet Sunday to be recognised by the community it spends so much time supporting, I could not be prouder.”
