It was an early start on Wednesday morning when the cadets were given a brief introduction to what they were going to be doing over the course of those two days. It was 16 hours of training and practical work, then an assessment the following day.
The cadets were taught basic emergency procedures and what to do in the event of someone having a heart attack, suffering burns or bleeding.2195 first aid course 2 (1)
On Thursday morning they went straight into learning about head injuries and the DRSABC procedure, which would apply to all first aid situations. In the afternoon, the cadets practiced all the techniques that they had learnt such as CPR and how to tie slings which was followed by their assessments.
It was two long, enjoyable days and they were very pleased with the outcome of what they had learnt.
Cadet Olivia Olsson said “I am so pleased to have passed my Youth First Aid course, it’s given me so many useful life skills”.
Cadet Joan Fowodu added “I happy to have the knowledge of what to do in the event of these emergency situations and it was a very good experience to have taken part in”.
