‘1109 Squadron on Home turf for the Cross Country Championships’

1109 XCOUNTRYIMG_4516Twelve cadets from 1109 (Thetford) Squadron took part in the Inter-Squadron Cross Country Championships held at RAF Barnham on Sunday 21st February 2016.

The event saw Squadrons from all corners of the Wing compete with the hope of being selection to represent Norfolk and Suffolk Wing at the Regional Competition on the 6th March.
The cadets competed in five categories, Junior Boys and Girls, Youth Boys, Senior Girls and Junior Men over 3.5km and 5.km courses on a mixture of terrain. This was a first for many of the cadets, especially Cadet Tyler Howard who came third in the Junior Boys category and will be representing the Wing in March at RAF Cranwell.
1109’s Junior Boys came 4th in their category with the Senior Girls coming 2nd. As a collective 1109 finished 4th overall which is a fantastic achievement, hopefully being the start of another successful sporting season which saw the Squadron receive ‘Best Sporting Squadron’ in 2015.
Squadron Sports Officer, Sergeant Matthew Drewry said ‘the Squadrons achievements on the sporting front continue to grow and today saw a group of relatively new cadets represent themselves and 1109 extremely well, with an extra congratulations to Tyler for finishing 3rd in a very competitive and challenging age category’.
The cadets look forward to the next Inter-Squadron event which is the Touch Rugby Finals Day on Sunday 8th May.
