Last weekend, cadets from 2195 (Long Eaton) and 1360 (Stapleford and Sandiacre) Squadron went to the Peak District for the joint squadron Christmas Camp.
When the cadets arrived at The Peak Centre in Edale at 7 O’ Clock, they were assigned to a flight, allocated rooms and they unpacked. Following this, they had some warm soup and had some free time to prepare for tomorrows’ events. However, some cadets chose to relax by the fire or play table tennis.
Waking up at an early hour, the cadets were spending the morning and afternoon hiking in the Dales. Firstly, they were split into 5 groups based on their experience ability for walking group. All walked around Mam Tor or Kinder Scout and had to battle the fierce weather. The cadets who had little experience spent more time learning and developing their navigation skills, whereas the cadets who had hiked many times before took a more technically difficult route.
In the afternoon, they prepared for Cadets Got Talent. This was an interflight competition where they competed in three categories: a group song, a comedy Christmas and a comical imitation of fellow staff and cadets.

Day 3 was a more chilled out day. It involved three activities: rock climbing, a ‘ScavEx’ and a room sweep. The rock climbing wall was in the youth hostel itself and the ‘ScavEx’ involved several Christmas-related leadership activities.
After this, The Peak Centre was given a thorough cleaning and everyone got their hand stuck in. All that was left to do was to thank the staff for giving up their time and wish Cadet Kyle Davies of 1360 Squadron happy birthday.
Cadet Aidan Poole said “The weekend was a great adventure and left me with very little energy to spare. I learnt new skills, met new friends and made new memories. Next year cannot come too soon!”
