A group of lucky Air Cadets from 378 (Mannock) Squadron, Air Training Corps, were recently given privileged ‘behind the scenes access’ to the goings-on at London Luton Airport.
The visit gave four cadets the opportunity to get a real understanding for the workings of an airport, with the group touring the on-site fire station and operations centre as well as being driven down the runway by airport staff. The visit then culminated with a look around the National Air Traffic Services control tower where cadets learnt more about the logistics needed to keep flights on the move.
Flight Lieutenant William Kellock from 378 Squadron said: “The cadets who were lucky enough to be part of this trip had a wonderful opportunity to gain a real insight into commercial aviation. My thanks go out to those at London Luton Airport who made the visit possible, in particular Terry Lyddall who took time out to arrange and then host the cadets. The visit was of great benefit to the young people of Mannock Squadron.”
