‘1109 represented at Wretham Remembrance Service’


 

Cadet Sergeant Mitchell Plumpton and Cadet Sergeant Kathryn Towell from 1109 (Thetford) Squadron attended a Remembrance Service at Wretham Church in Norfolk on Wednesday 4th November. The service was to honour Czech, Slovak and Polish Nationals that died during World War Two bombing missions out of Wretham Airfield.

This is the fourth year the squadron has attended the ceremony alongside representatives from the Royal Air Force and National Embassy’s. The event is organised by the Thetford Branch of RAFA and supported by the Mayor of Thetford, Royal British Legion, local residents and family members who had flown in from abroad.
Sergeant Plumpton, who laid the wreath said ‘it was an honour to lay a wreath at the memorial today. A ceremony such as this really does make you think about the sacrifices people gave to ensure everyone’s freedom today’.
1109 squadron continue their Remembrance commemorations with a parade in Thetford town centre this coming Sunday.
