Cadet Warrant Officer Damien Simpson of 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron, Air Training Corps, was selected as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Derbyshire. This means he will join the Lord Lieutenant, Mr. Tucker at civic, voluntary and social events across the county.
Each year, the Lord-Lieutenant appoints several young people to serve as his Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets.
They are drawn from the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, the Air Training Corps, and the Combined Cadet Force and from the civil uniformed youth organisations – Scouts, Girl Guiding and the St John Ambulance – across Derbyshire.
When on duty, Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets wear a distinctive badge of their appointment, to denote their role. They assist the Lord-Lieutenant as required – often on parade for Royal visits – and act as ambassadors for their organisations and the young people of Derbyshire.
Lord Lieutenant Cadet is a highly sought after role; in our wing we have been lucky enough to receive 4 appointments across 4 counties, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. After being appointed, Cadet Warrant Officer Damien Simpson will escort the Lord Lieutenant at a number of events over a one year period.
Cadet Warrant Officer Damien Simpson, on being presented the award, said “I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to be the Lord Lieutenants Cadet of Derbyshire, and look forward to the experiences the role will bring.”
Flying Officer Buckingham, Officer in Charge of 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron ATC, said “Cadet Warrant Officer Simpson has consistently put himself at the forefront of the Squadron, setting an excellent example to the cadets. He should be very proud to have his accomplishments recognised in being awarded this position.”
