Three cadets from 1109 (Thetford) Squadron represented Norfolk and Suffolk Wing in the Inter Wing Junior Football Championships at RAF Cranwell on Sunday 11th October.
Cadet Sergeant Micthell Plumpton, Cadet Corporal Robbie Webb and Cadet Callum Brown were selected for the team following success at the recent football trials in September.
The cadets played in all five matches against Trent, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, South and East Midlands, Warwick and Birmingham, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wings and played important roles ensuring Norfolk and Suffolk Wing came third in the overall in the tournament.
The competition was also used by Central and East Region to select cadets for the Regional football trials and consequently represent the Region on the 15th November. Team captain, Mitchell Plumtpon and Callum Brown were selected and look forward to competing for a place in the Regional team.
Sergeant Matt Drewry, Wing Football Team Manager and staff member at 1109 squadron said; ‘It’s fantastic to see three of our cadets selected for the wing team and even more so that Mitchell and Callum have been selected for the Regional trials. All three were important team players on the day and contributed greatly to the wing coming third overall’. Mitchell has previously represented Central and East Region at football and he is eager to make it in two consecutive seasons.
