On Sunday 27th September 18 air cadets from 1109 (Thetford) Squadron took part in the annual Norfolk and Suffolk Wing Swimming Gala held at Wattisham. The cadets took part in various events from backstroke and butterfly to medley and freestyle relays, across 4 age categories.

1109 squadron came away with 21 medals, coming 2nd in the Junior boys category, 3rd in the overall boys category and placing 4th in the whole Wing. This was a fantastic team achievement and moved the squadron up from 10th in 2014.

One of the highlights of the day was Cadet Sam McConnell winning gold in the junior boys freestyle races over 50m.

Cadet Sergeant Hayden Iles, who represented the squadron in the Senior Boys Category said, ‘Wing Swimming was another highly contested and represented sporting event from 1109 Squadron. The team participated to their best efforts and showed the willingness to compete and improve on results year after year, something of which the team has proudly achieved for this event’.

A number of cadets were also selected to represent the Wing at the Regional Gala on the 18th October at RAF Cranwell, which tops off another excellent sports event for 1109.
