‘1109 Squadron Commemorate VJ Day’

1109 (Th1109 vjetford) Squadron took part in Thetford’s Victory In Japan Parade on Saturday 15th August, alongside the Royal British Legion and Army Cadet Force.

The parade and service was well attended by members of the public, cadets from both forces, Royal British Legion members, local dignitaries, senior military officers from the Royal Air Force and United States Air Force as well as veterans from the WW2 in Japan.

Cadet Jacob Pates and Cadet Mantvydas Senkus both carried out a reading each and were really pleased with contributing towards the service in this way.

Deputy Squadron Commander at 1109, Flight Lieutenant Juliane Ovenden said ‘on the 70 anniversary of the day Japan surrendered and therefore signalling the end of the War, it is so important to pay our respects to those that fought for our freedom and remember those sadly that never came home. The squadron was honoured to take part in the VJ Day Parade and it was fantastic to see so much support from the local community’.
