Two members of the 1211 (Swadlincote) Squadron Air Cadets joined a team of 12 cadets and staff from all around South and East Midlands to complete the International 4 days Marches in Nijmegen, Holland. Pilot Officer Charlotte Hughes and little sister Corporal 
Isobel Hughes completed the four day event and lived to count the blisters!
The Marches began at 0430 each day with the cadets really enjoying the atmosphere of the whole festival, joining in with singing and dancing along the route, handing out souvenirs and stickers to the hundreds of children that lined the streets.
Each day the team took advantage of the early morning cool weather, singing marching songs to help keep up the fast pace. All members of the team fully completed the four day marches and were presented with their medals at Charlemagne fields before joining the rest of the British Military Contingent on the final 5km Victory parade through the streets of Nijmegen, following the Royal Artillery Band surrounded by regular service personnel.
Isobel said ‘It was an absolutely fantastic experience, seeing the streets lined with thousands of local people at all times of the day was spectacular and it is definitely something I would like to do again in the future and a memory I will never forget.’
Squadron Commander Alyn Thompson added “We are extremely proud of our members of this team as the Nijmegan Marches are an extremely arduous activity in which they took part alongside regular military teams from all over the world. I look forward to seeing them return to Swadlincote wearing their hard won medals.”
