What success for the Long Eaton Air Cadets who were crowned champions of the Annual Wing Field Day competition, a first for all Cadets on the Squadron.
They successfully took home trophies in leadership, the media competition and the Padre’s cup. Furthermore, the squadron was the 3rd most improved squadron from the previous year of wing competitions, highlighting the vast success 2195 has undergone.
The cadet media team, led by Cadet Warrant Officer Rebecca Parr, had to make a magazine article which encouraged younger people of the local community to become Air Cadets. The staff media team, led by Flying Officer Kment, had to carry out a similar task, inspiring adults to volunteer as a staff member.
The leadership team, led also by Cadet Warrant Officer Parr, had to carry out a timed task which required clear communication, teamwork skills and careful management.
The Padre’s cup, led by Flight Sergeant Charlie Wilson had to complete a series of tasks: the first, to create two prayers for certain scenarios and second, to travel around the RAF station in order to be able to answer a series of questions.
Elsewhere, the drill team, led by Cadet Warrant Officer Damien Simpson, performed admirably, coming in a tightly fought 4th place. The first aid team, led by Cadet Sergeant Nicole Walker, came 11th. The shooting team, led by Cadet Sergeant Craig Harrison, came 16th. The Aircraft Recognition, led by Cadet Flight Sergeant Nathan Moffatt, came 16th and finally, the modelling team, led by Cadet Jack Upton, came 15th overall a fantastic set of results.
Cadet Warrant Officer Rebecca Parr said “I am ecstatic to find out we are overall champions of Wing Field Day, and I am so proud of the whole Squadron, such a tremendous effort, I now look forward to my first ever Region Field Day in September”
Flight Lieutenant Stepanian, Officer Commanding of 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron, said “I am extremely proud and grateful for the time and effort put in by the cadets and staff of the squadron in the run up to Wing Field Day 2015 and in the 18 months preceding it. Achieving first place at Wing Field Day and 6th place in the 2014 Auster trophy despite virtually (and literally!) rebuilding the squadron in late 2013 is truly amazing. It is certainly a high point in my time as Officer Commanding 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron.”
