King’s Lynn Air Cadets Raise Flag for Armed Forces Week


British Armed Forces Week in King’s Lynn had a formal start on Monday 22nd June with a flag raising ceremony in the town’s Tower Gardens close to its war memorial,Armed Forces Week Flag Raising

A procession of  Standard bearers, veterans, macebearers, sword bearer, the Deputy Mayor Councillor David Whitby, Reverend Canon Ivory, the High Sheriff of Norfolk, representatives of the three Armed Services, King’s Lynn Army Cadets and Air Cadets from 42F (King’s Lynn) Squadron made its way from the nearby British Legion Club for the 10.30am ceremony.

Following a welcome from the Deputy Mayor, the flag, which to this point had been entrusted to 42F’s Cadet Warrant Officer Alex Stapleton, currently the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk’s Cadet, was marched to the flagpole and raised.

A bible reading was given by 42F’s Cadet Sergeant Lauren Simpson during a short service led by Reverend Canon Ivory. At the end of the service a ‘Salute to our Armed Forces’ was read by Army Cadet Lance Corporal Joshua Chapman and the proceedings concluded with the National Anthem.

On returning to the Royal British Legion club for refreshments the cadets were thanked for the important part they had played in the civic ceremony.
