‘Staff from Melton Air Cadets meet Honorary Ambassador’

Staff and Air Cadets from 1279 (Melton Mowbray) Squadron, South and East Midlands Wing, took a day out of their normal squadron activities to visit one of the UKs most popular airshows at RAF Cosford.

The Cosford Air Show 2015 was a sell out event with thousands of people in attendance including air cadets from all over the country. Also in attendance, in her capacity as Honorary Ambassador for the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO), was Group Captain Carol Vorderman RAFVR(T).

1279 cv (1)During the day, crowds were thrilled with the displays from display teams such as ‘The Blades’, ‘The Breitling Wingwalkers’, ‘The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’ and the world renowned ‘Red Arrows’.

Despite cloudy weather, the show still went on and this meant that crowds were able to see a routine from the legendary Vulcan aircraft as it takes part in it’s final flying display season. Whilst they weren’t watching the displays, the air cadets got the chance to look around the RAF Museum, have fun at various stands including RAF Recruitment and take part in a range of activities in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) hangar.

To make the day even better, the staff team were lucky enough to get the chance to meet the ACO ambassador, Carol Vorderman, as she enjoyed the airshow. She stopped to talk to the team and even took the time to have a selfie with them before going on to continue representing the ACO as she explored the range of activities that were there.

Civilian Instructor Karl Attwood commented, “We were all especially delighted to learn that Group Captain Vorderman would be there. She attracted considerable attention, not just from members of the ACO, but many members of the public who were intrigued by her presence in uniform. It’s great that we have such a high profile ambassador working on behalf of the organisation to promote it to the wider public and she took time to speak to as many staff and cadets as possible, all of whom were inspired by her friendliness and enthusiasm.”
