Blue Lanyard Taster

Cadets from across the Central and East Region have had the opportunity to sample the contents of the Air Cadet Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course (QAIC).

Two of these “Taster” Courses were held over the last weekend and allowed forty of the Region’s cadets to try the subjects that make up the full QAIC programme. Utilizing the excellent facilities at the Region’s Activity Centre accommodate at RAF Cranwell, the cadets sampled the functions of Air Traffic Control, flight navigation, and simulated flying on state of the art simulators and other related subjects. They also had to demonstrate their ability to stand in front of an audience and deliver a presentation.

For those who enjoyed the “taster”, there is the opportunity to apply for keenly sought places on the full course that, on successful completion, would allow them the privilege of wearing the coveted Blue Lanyard.

Full Courses are run either at MoD Boscome Down or at RAF Linton on Ouse and will entail attending over several weekends. A week long camp is the culmination of the course and those that successfully graduate attend an end of course dinner and are presented with their lanyards and QAI badge.

After successful completion the qualified cadets will have the skills and knowledge to deliver interactive presentations on a wide range of Aerospace and Air Power related subjects. They will also be key to the successful running of the Region Activity Centers and Air Cadet Community Engagement Platforms.

The majority of the “Taster” Course content at the weekend was delivered by Qualified Aerospace Instructors, cadets that have completed the QAIC.
