A group of local Air Cadets were treated to a rare insight into the work of Humberside Search & Rescue.
The cadets, from 195 (Grimsby) Squadron, were invited down to Humberside Search and Rescue station, based close-by to Humberside Airport, on Tuesday 8 March, for a tour of the facilities.
The station, which has been operational since February last year, houses two Sikorsky S-92 search & rescue helicopters, as well as ground control, mechanical stations and accommodation for the air and ground crew.
The cadets were shown around the facility by helicopter pilot John Stanley, who formerly served in the Royal Air Force for 16 years.
Flight Lieutenant Terance Shird, Officer Commanding 195 Sqn, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Mr Stanley and to his colleagues for showing us around, educating our cadets and answering their questions.
“John and his colleagues here at Humberside Search and Rescue carry out heroic actions on an almost daily basis, and that are real inspirational figures for our cadets – especially those that intend to pursue a career in aviation.”
Cadet Sergeant Matt Riley said: “We really loved the tour –John and Windy were really friendly and answered all of our questions.
“They showed us inside the cockpit of the aircraft, let us watch them bringing one in to the hangar, and chatted to the cadets about the day-to-day operations of Bristow’s Search and Rescue teams.”
